Description
Since first appearing in Chicago in the mid-1980s, Jim O'Rourke has worked in all realms of film and music. He has collaborated with groups as diverse as The Merce Cunningham Dance Company, Derek Bailey, Sonic Youth, Red Crayola ou Apartment House. He has produced cult albums for Stereolab, John Fahey, Beth Orton or Wilco ("A Ghost is Born", for which he won a Grammy Award in 2005). He has composed film music for Werner Herzog and Olivier Assayas among others. In his solo work, he finds connections between different musics in a way that has only deepened the enigma around him.
In nearly 40 years, he has worked with such notables as John Zorn, Tony Conrad, Gavin Bryars, Gastr Del Sol, Christian Fennesz, Peter Brotzmann, Koji Wakamatsu, Evan Parker, Phil Niblock, Stephen O'Malley and Brigitte Fontaine.
His last album, "Shutting down here", released in 2020, was recorded at INA-GRM and in his Japanese home studio.
