Occam Ocean is a unique project that has come out of two years of work between Éliane Radigue – an emblematic and historical figure in contemporary French composition – and the Onceim musicians.
Occam is the title of a cycle of instrumental pieces begun by Éliane Radigue in 2011, a cycle composing a work that is, she says, “by its nature unfinished because unfinishable”. A new series of pieces for a large ensemble, Onceim, is being added to Occam Ocean for the first time. The choice and the exclusive use of continuous sounds, called drones by the composer, place Éliane Radigueʼs aesthetic at the crossroads of minimalist, electronic and spectral currents. The spiritual dimension of her pieces gives her music a powerful, meditative character.
This piece has been performed on several occasions in an augmented version with prestigious partner orchestras (Ensemble Contrechamps, KlangForum Wien) accompanied upstream by Onceim in the preparation of these performances, intensifying the depth, subtlety and immersiveness of the listenerʼs experience.
